Worcester County's Premier M.M.A. Training Facility is now offering training for ages 10-14 in the afternoon @ 5:00Our youth program is designed to teach the different aspects of MMA while at the same time focusing on safety, fitness and attitude of the participants. For Youth and Teen students of the MMAT Center, we require a signed Code of Conduct Contract as it is our goal to develop strong men and women, both of body and character. One of our teen students told his parents that MMA training would be a valuable tool for him when confronted with the temptations of the age (drugs, alcohol). Even though the commercial for drug abuse prevention promote “Just Say No”, it’s simply not that easy. However, when professional MMA fighters – their instructors and currently the coolest people on the planet – require a healthy lifestyle for their students with consequences for noncompliance, it’s a very strong defense for avoidance of illegal substances. Just as important is our requirement of “No Fighting”. Competition in sanctioned and supervised events is available (grappling only, no striking for minors) for those who want to test their skills. Call 508-852-6628 or email office@mmatcenter.com to enroll or for more information The Sport As UFC and MMA matured, it became apparent that a more diversified set of fighting styles were required. Stand up striking (like boxing and kickboxing) and wrestling techniques and tactics became the staple skills. Jiu-Jitsu fighters, particularly those well versed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques left a significant impression on MMA. No longer were huge sluggers able to dominate. Call 508-852-6628 or email office@mmatcenter.com to enroll or for more information To Compete or Not The majority of our students train for the conditioning, sport and self-defense aspects of MMA and may never compete outside of the school, however the MMAT center offers opportunities in sanctioned events and competition training for those who wish to enter the ring. For minors (under 18), the only competition available to them is in the grappling arena – no striking allowed. Students from the MMAT Center can attend tournaments promoted by the North American Grappling Association (NAGA); events are held in New England several times per year with divisions for age, experience and weight to insure safety and fairness. Adults have the opportunity to compete in either grappling only or the full contact sport of MMA – please see the section on MMA – The Sport for the reality of competition at this level; it’s not the “two-men-enter-and-only-one-leaves-no-holds-barred” fights of yesteryear. The safety of the fighters is paramount with many rules and regulations to facilitate it. The coaches at the MMAT Center will not endorse uneven matches or allow our students to compete under the MMAT Center name if they are not physically or mentally prepared for a match.
